“So the story of Sherlock Holmes, on the surface, is about detection, but in reality, it’s about the best of two men who save each other – a lost, washed-up war hero and a man who could end up committing murders instead of solving them. They come together. They become this perfect unit. They become the best friendship ever, and they become heroes. That’s what we fall in love with, not Sherlock on his own. No one can love that man on his own, but Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson – the best friends ever.” - Steven Moffat

two and a half years after the fall, john is still haunted by nightmares.  only now they’re different.  instead of shouts and the stench of smoke and taste of sand in his mouth as bullets whizzed past his ears, he sees sherlock.  always sherlock.  sometimes he’s alive - standing there with that smug smirk on his face and that stupid coat.  other times…the worst.  june 16th. this is my note, i’m a fake, oh god all the blood, you could,  god no, goodbye john

he finds himself  running faster towards barts than he has ever run for anything before.  there’s a roaring in his ears like the waves of an angry ocean.  except the waves aren’t made of water.  they’re made of disbelief and lost memories and grief and rooftops and-
